Unilorin ASUU condemns petition against former VC

Date: 2016-12-31

The factional members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), yesterday said the petition against the former Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, does not represent the views of its over 1,500 members. The petition also mentioned the current Vice Chancellor, Dr. Abdulganiy Ambali, in the allegations of wrong-doing.

ASUU Ibadan zone wrote a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), alleging that the immediate-past VC and current JAMB Registrar, Prof. Oloyede and sitting VC, Prof Ambali were involved in a N2 billion fraud.

Speaking to Daily Trust on the issue, the Assistant Secretary-General of ASUU faction at the university, Dr. Alex Akanmu, said the EFCC should carry out proper investigation on the matter but added that the originator of the petition was not representing them.

"We have over 1500 members of ASUU at Unilorin. Those who wrote the petition are just 11 and cannot represent us. Our school is a public school and the records are there for the EFCC to verify," Akanmu said.

According to a statement by ASUU factional group led by Dr. Usman Raheem, the allegation is not only laughable but misleading.

He noted that it was simply another ploy by the institution's arch enemies of many years to drag its reputation in the mud.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Director, corporate affairs of the university, Mr. Kunle Akogun, when contacted on the matter said the university management will come up with comprehensive reaction on it soon.
