Kwara creates ministry for tertiary education
The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Isiaka Gold, who announced this yesterday at a press briefing in Ilorin, said this was part of the decisions reached during the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting.
Gold said the new ministry would cater for all the state owned tertiary institutions, such as the Kwara state University (KWASU), Malete, Kwara state Polytechnic, College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies as well as the State Scholarship Board.
The SSG explained that the creation of the new ministry became expedient because the parent ministry was too large for effective and efficient service delivery.
In his remarks, the commissioner for education and human capital development, Alhaji Saka Onimago, disclosed that the SEC also approved the construction of a College of Engineering complex at KWASU at a cost of N690.9m as a build up to the accreditation of the programme in the school by the National Universities Commission(NUC).
