KWSG Reiterates Commitment to Transparent Governance

Date: 2016-09-21

THE Kwara State government has promised to promote transparency in governance.

The governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed made this known while playing host to the traditional rulers from Kwara South senatorial district on Tuesday, noting that his administration will do everything in its power to be accountable to its people.

Alhaji Ahmed said that the newly launched IF-K will be funded by the internally generated revenue which has grown from about 500 million to 1.5 Billion. He further explained that since capital projects will be funded by the people's money through IF-K, they need to be updated on how it is utilized.

Under the IF-K scheme 54 projects have been itemized across the education, energy, health, works and water sectors.

According to him, the IF-K project is as a result of the States Infrastructure Investment and Finance strategy, which he approved following an infrastructure assessment that was done in 2014.

The outcome of the assessment showed an estimated N225 billion deficit value of infrastructure across the 16 local government councils and spanning all sectors, which required both government and private investment, in order to boost the state's productivity and wealth creation.

Ahmed added that the main objectives of IF-K is to provide a guided and outward facing framework for continuous and consistent infrastructure development, to always update the people on how their tax is judiciously put to use.
