Hardship lamentable - Kwara TUC
The Chairman, Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, Kwara State Council, Mr. Israel Adebisi, has said the hardship faced by many Nigerians is "highly debilitating and lamentable", given the nation's abundant human and material resources.
Speaking in Ilorin on Thursday during a TUC's seminar with the theme, 'Towards finding lasting solutions to a traumatised economy: The intervention of TUC as a social and strategic partners,' he said there should be well coordinated and concerted efforts by all stakeholders to salvage the country from economic and social strangulation.
"Nigeria is a tragic metaphor when viewed from the prism of excruciating lack and wants in the ocean of abundance. It is a nation that is supposed to flow with milk and honey. Unfortunately, the contrary is the case. It is a system pockmarked with infelicities.
"Our dear nation is a basket case," Adebisi said.
Director-General, Micheal Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies, Ilorin, Dr. John Olanrewaju, said the New Partnership for African Development's documents for Nigeria, NEEDS 1 and NEEDS II had not achieved the desired objectives.
