Unilorin Organizes Seminar For Junior Secondary Sschool Students In Ilorin
The Junior Secondary Students in Ilorin have been advised to be keen observers and think differently in pursue of becoming future Scientists.
The Vice Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor Ishaq Oloyede stated this at the second Greater Scientist Workshop for Junior Secondary Schools held on Wednesday at the University Auditorium.
Professor Oloyede said the workshop was part of the university's community service which is among the mandate of the Institution of teaching and research.
The Vice Chancellor who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Professor Bayo Lawal said through community service, the Institution helps to bridge the gap between town and gown.
He assured the public of reaching out to Secondary Schools outside Ilorin.
In her address Dr. (Mrs) Hass Akanbi, from the Department of Pharmacology, College Health Sciences emphasized on the need for the Students to be curious to help them become great Scientists.
She said invention does not require huge expenses as science emerges from insignificant changes while advising the Students to be creative and be considerate to people around them.
The Chairman of the Workshop and former Dean, Faculty of Sciences, Professor Ayoola Obaleye, maintained that purpose of the workshop was to create awareness of science in the Students mind as a method of fulfilling the mission of the institution.
Present at the workshop were the Dean Student Affairs, Professor Sunday Umoh, Dean of Law, Acting Dr. Abdulquadri Abikan, Dean Post Graduate School, Professor Bewaji, Director of Centre for Research Education In-house Training (CREDIT), Professor Temidayo Oladiji among others.
Queen Elizabeth Secondary School, University Upper Basic School, Chapel Secondary School, Government Secondary School Maraba, Ilorin Grammar School and other Schools were some of the schools present at the seminar.
