The Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad has reiterated the House's commitment towards development of sports in the state.

The Speaker gave the assurance when the newly sworn-in executives of the Sports Writers' Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kwara State Branch paid him a courtesy visit in his office.

Represented by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Mathew Okedare, Ahmad said the importance of sports could not be over-emphasized "as it is one of the ways with which government could reduce sickness in the society".

Lamenting the decay of facilities at the state stadium complex, he pledged that the House would work assiduously through its committee on sports to fast track the stadium rehabilitation as provided for in the 2016 budget.

Also, the Speaker maintained that total overhauling of sporting facilities would undoubtedly restore the stadium's lost glory and further assist to bring out hidden talents among the youths.

Ahmad in a statement signed by his media aide, Shuiab Abdulkadir, however encouraged multinationals and philanthropists to further assist government with a view to improving Nigerian sports.

Earlier, the SWAN Chairman, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Bibire had said that the association was eager to work with the House and Ministry of Sports and Youth Development to achieve the desired result in the sector.
