Orphanage Produces 4 Graduates, Makes Case For 276 Orphans
The Islamic Orphanage Home, Ilorin, has disclosed that four of its trained graduates were observing their National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). It also said another 11 beneficiaries of the Foundation had completed their National Certificate of Education (NCE) programmes from various Colleges of Education (COEs) and were in need of jobs.
Chairman of the foundation, Arc Saefullahi Alege, disclosed this during the annual stakeholders' meeting of the Foundation held at the national secretariat of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), Garin Alimi, Ilorin. In his address at the occasion, Alege said the Foundation which started in 2002 with 10 children "now has 276 orphans under its care."
Of this figure, he said 88 of them were in higher institutions of learning, a number which he said had increased by 55 compared to 2015 when they were just 205. He said a total of 155 children were at primary and post primary levels, while 47 were either seeking admission or needed to retake their O Levels.
He, however, urged those entrusted with the estates and inheritances of orphans in their care to release such to the grown up children. Alege said the Foundation had had cause to engage some people on the need to release property belonging to orphans.
His view was corroborated by two guest lecturers at the occasion, Dr. Abdulkareem Adisa, of the department of Islamic Studies, University of Ilorin and an Ilorin based Islamic preacher, Alhaji Muktar Onikunkewu. In his lecture, Abdulsalam who is the Head, Islamic department of the University of Ilorin, warned that those holding on to the properties of orphans risk the wrath of Allah.
