Niger gov, Kwara Utd mourn Amodu, Keshi
Niger State Governor Abubakar Bello has expressed his sorrow for the death of former Super Eagles coaches Shaibu Amodu and Stephen Keshi.
Also, Kwara United commiserated with the Nigeria Football Federation and the country's football family over their passing.
Amodu died in Benin on Saturday at 58 while Keshi passed away on June 8 also in the Edo State capital at 54.
Amodu played for Niger Tornadoes between 1978 and 1981. The former BCC Lions manager was forced to hang up his boots following a broken leg while playing for Tornadoes.
"The news of Amodu's death has thrown the state into mourning. Amodu saw Niger State as his home because he spent a large part of his playing career in Minna. We have indeed lost one of the pillars of football in our state and indeed in Nigeria and Africa," Bello said in Minna on Saturday.
The governor said the country would miss the exit of both Amodu and Keshi as he commended the deceased for their contribution to national development.
Kwara United, a statement by their Chairman Oladimeji Thompson, expressed sadness over the death of the two coaches.
Keshi won the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia as a player and won the tournament as a coach in South Africa in 2013.
Amodu won the FA Cup with BCC Lions of Gboko and El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri while also guiding BCC Lions to win the Africa Winners Cup, now renamed CAF Confederation Cup.
