Journalists Cautioned Against Sensational Reporting

Date: 2016-05-22

The chairman of the Kwara State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Abiodun Abdulkareem, has cautioned journalists in the country against sensationalism in the discharge of their duties.

He said as members of the fourth estate of the realm, the mirror of the society and the last hope of the common man, journalists should report events fairly and with all sanctity and avoid taking sides.

The NUJ chairman said the council was putting in efforts to ensure that quack journalists are eliminated from the state and warned those in the practice to desist in their own interest.

He disclosed that the council had set up an ethics and disciplinary committee to check the activities of quacks.

Abdulkareem commended the state government for repositioning and remodelling the state media houses and appealed to the government to provide the media outfits with modern equipment and prioritise the welfare of journalists in its employment.
