Governors meet over dwindling economy
State governors under the umbrella of the Nigeria Governors' Forum on Wednesday met behind closed door to discuss the nation's dwindling economy. The meeting, which was held inside the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was a continuation of an inconclusive one they held last week Wednesday at the same venue.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the governors led by their chairman, Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State, are expected to table the outcome before President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday (today).
A meeting of the governors and the President is scheduled to hold at the Council Chambers at about 2pm on Thursday. As at the time the meeting started at about 8.50pm, state governors who had arrived for the meeting included those of Zamfara, Kano, Kwara, Borno, Ondo, Delta, Adamawa, Jigawa, Kaduna, Gombe, Niger, Enugu, Ogun, Nasarawa, Katsina and Kebbi.
Deputy governors in attendance included those of Bayelsa, Anambra and Oyo states. Yari, who briefed State House correspondents at the end of the last meeting of the forum, had said the meeting did not reach any conclusion on the discussions on the economy.
The governor had said, "We met as Nigeria Governors' Forum. At the executive session, we discussed a lot of economic issues. The meeting is not yet concluded. We are continuing next week. Therefore, by next week Thursday, we will be able to give you a recap of what was discussed and the agreement reached. "In the mean time, you will bear with us until next week. We are discussing critically about the nation's economy as a follow-up to our last retreat. "By next week Thursday, we will be able to give you the details of our meeting and further actions."
