Colorado varsity to explore ICT ties with Unilorin
A former Dean of the School of Business, Colorado State University, USA, Prof. Edward Santiago, has disclosed that his University would be keen to explore a possible collaboration with the University of Ilorin in the area of ICT development.
Prof. Santiago disclosed this penultimate Friday (March 25, 2016) during a whistle-stop familiarisation visit to the University of Ilorin.
The Colorado State University don, who was accompanied on the visit by the Director, ICT Unit of Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State, Prof. Olumide Babatope Longe, was conducted round some key units of the University by the Deputy Director, Ilorin Business School, University of Ilorin, Dr Rasheed Jimoh.
Areas visited by Prof. Santiago included the Unilorin FM radio station, where he featured on a live interview programme; the Computer Services and Information Technology (COMSIT) Centre, the University's Network Operating Centre (NOC), and the Centre for International Education (CIE).
At the radio station, Prof. Santiago was received by the Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Kunle Akogun and the Station Manager, Mr. AbdulGaniyu Durodola. During the live radio programme, he described the University of Ilorin as "big and beautiful". The e-learning and distance learning expert was also received at the COMSIT and NOC by Prof. Musa Ahmed, the Director, COMSIT and Engr, Hussein Akande, the NOC Manager.
Prof. Santiago was told that the University has upgraded its internet connectivity on campus with the recent migration from STM 1 to STM 4, accommodating an average end users database of 44, 000 (staff and students). At the CIE, the Director, Prof. Muhammed Ibrahim, told the Colorado University don that the Centre was always ready for international collaborations.
Prof. Santiago was among the six distinguished world renowned academics that were recently honoured at the 2016 edition of the International Multidisciplinary Cross Border Conference on Science, Technology, Education, Arts, Management and the Social Sciences (iSTEAMS) in Accra, Ghana.
