Group counsels Kwara Govt against discriminating LG, State workers

Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association, IEYDA, has appealed to the Kwara State Government to expedite action towards prompt payment of workers' salaries and to also avoid discrimination between local and state governments workers.

The union in a statement signed on Sunday by its National President and Public Relations Officer, Alhaji Abdullahi Babatunde Salaudeen and Mallam Muhammed Uthman Jagunmo respectively noted that "there ?is only one Kwara State and it must be indivisible. "

The statement added that there is urgent need for labour unions and the leadership state ?and local governments to endeavour to reach an equilibrium to fast track policies that will further ensure growth and development in the state. It said: ?"The striking workers who are aggrieved over non-payment of salaries are not only our members but they are also major stakeholders in the Kwara Project which is fast becoming a brand in the national politics.

"Not only that, they have put in their best in ensuring ?a better Kwara State through their respective wealth of experience and therefore, they deserved to be paid and promoted as and when due and must also be paid their pensions in the case of retired personnel."

The group therefore ?commended the painstaking efforts of the civil servants in the state for the perseverance and steadfastness in the face of the financial crisis confronting the state.

?IEYDA therefore urged the state government to make judicious use of the proposed bond towards providing welfare for the entire citizenry among other valuable projects in the state.
