Suspected Robbers, Cultists Arrested in Kwara
Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Esosa Amadasun, has paraded eight suspected armed robbers and cultists and others over unlawful possession of firearms. This is coming few days after parading those involved in the recent Share and Tsaragi communal clash, who have already been charged to court.
Parading the suspects, who include an ex-convict who was released from prison last week and a wanted armed robber in Ogbomosho, Oyo State, the police commissioner said the command has resolved to weed criminality from the state and warned those planning to engage in criminality to desist or be ruthlessly dealt with. He said among those arrested were six armed robbery suspects, who were nabbed along New Yidi road, Ilorin at about 4:00p.m. on New Year's day. The police boss also said that the suspects were members of the KK cult group, adding that they had been terrorising people in the metropolis. Amadasun said the suspects were on a tricycle with registration No Kwara LRN 312 QW driven by one Hammed Alaje, 28, with six others. Others in the tricycle, he said, were one Sulyman Alabi Raji, an ex-convict, Mohammed Abdullateef, Abubakar Sulyman, Yakubu Zakariyau, Ajibola Saheed (wanted armed robber) in Ogbomosho and Taofeek Yunusa.
Amadasun disclosed that "when search was conducted on them, a locally made pistol and live cartridge were recovered from them. "Investigation later revealed they were members of the above named cult group and were on their way to carry out an armed robbery operation at Asa-Dam area of the metropolis," the police boss added. He also said that three suspected cultists were arrested by a team of SARS operatives on routine patrol, adding that the suspects confessed to be members of a cult group and armed robbery gang. He said investigations into their activities were going on, adding that they would be charged to court as soon as they were done.
