Kwara State Polytechnic to promote science and technical education
The Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, says it will continue to sustain its leading position in promoting Science and Technical Education.
To this end, its Technological Development Centre has been powered with modern equipment for a bigger breakthrough in technological education.
The Rector of the Polytechnic, Mashud Elelu stated this in his office, while fielding questions from VON Correspondent in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The institution is also embarking on home-based research to improve its outstanding performance on the bench mark set by the National Research Fund.
Elelu, who enumerated other strategic steps being taken by the institution to engage and expose lecturers and students to technology, said such home-based research efforts were in agriculture, water, health and other critical areas of development.
He explained that the institution was vigorously pursuing its strategic master-plan put in place four years ago, to address the infrastructural deficit on campus, considering the ever-increasing population.
The Rector named twenty-four infrastructural projects being embarked upon by the institution, which include, classrooms, lecture halls, conference centers and the provision of other amenities.
He said fifty-four accredited courses out of fifty-five were currently being run by the institution on a seventy percent Science and Technology based ratio.
Elelu stressed that more than three hundred members of staff were benefitting from different national and international training programmes, apart from other interventions in the area of health care and revolving soft loans.
He mentioned that the staff industrial training programme by the institution during long vacation was to expose the affected staff to new equipment, skills and experience.
He commended the state government for the financial autonomous granted the college.
