Kwara to enact environmental and traffic laws

Date: 2015-12-17

The Kwara State Government is to enact laws on Environmental and Traffic Offences as part of strategies to promote environmental cleanliness and ensure sanity on the state roads.

The state Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, gave this indication while speaking with journalists at the Ilorin International Airport.

Ahmed said while the upgrading of existing law on traffic and environmental offences are to cope with increased human and vehicular population and attendant environmental issues, they will also focus more at ensuring compliance.

"We must be proactive to cope with the issues of environmental sanitation and traffic challenges as Kwara State is gradually evolving into a commercial hub with increasing population," the governor explained.

Ahead of the 2016 budget, Ahmed said his administration had succeeded in reducing the state's overhead expenditure as over N700 million was saved from leakages in the system.

Ahmed assured the people of the state that the 2016 Budget will take cognizance of the prevailing economic challenges in the country and the perennial slide in earnings from federation account allocations by being heavily people oriented.
