Kwara govt. assures residents on adequate water supply
The Kwara State Government yesterday reassured the people of the state of adequate water supply.
It however, attributed the delay in the execution of some projects in the water sector to the current financial crunch ravaging the state.
The state Commissioner for Water Resources, Barrister Abdulrazaq Shehu Akorede, stated this while receiving members of Ibagun Progressives, who were on a congratulatory visit to his office in Ilorin.
He noted that paucity of fund experienced by the state government has impeded some laudable projects it would have embarked upon. Akorede also pointed out that poor maintenance culture on water works in the state was partly responsible for acute shortage of water.
The commissioner said the government would soon commence rehabilitation of dilapidated water works in the bid to provide the people with drinkable water.
He explained that the proposed N20 billion bond by the state government would be channeled to infrastructural provisions in line with the electioneering promises of government to the people.
Speaking earlier, Chairman, Ibagun Progressives, Alhaji Kuranga Omomeji, described the appointment of Akorede as well deserved, assuring that he would bring his expertise and experience to bear while carrying out government's assignment.
Also speaking, Coordinator of the group, Barrister Abdulrauf Ajao, urged the commissioner to work with unity of purpose irrespective of ideological leaning within the polity.
He also warned the commissioner to be wary of fifth columnists with devious mind to truncate smooth and relative peace enjoyed by people of Ibagun ward. Ajao assured that the group would support the state government to actualize some of its set goals.
