10TH Lubcon Principals Cup final holds today

The final match of the 10th edition of Lubcon Principals Cup soccer competition among secondary schools in Kwara state comes up today (Wednesday) at the Main-Bowl of the state stadium complex, beginning from 3.00pm.

Oro Grammar School, Oro and Local Government Secondary School, Gwariya, Kaiama will square up in the final, to determine who goes home with the N1m star prize at stake.

Oro Grammar School, Oro, winners of the third edition of the competition started this edition by defeating Government Secondary School, Bacita by 2-0 in the quarter-final, and Government Technical College, Ilorin 1-0 in the semi-final, to qualify for the final.

Local Government Secondary School, Gwariya defeated hard fighting Government Technical College, Erin-Ile 4-2 in the quarter-final, and picked a final ticket without playing the semi-final following the disqualification of both Asa Local Government Secondary School, Temidire and Government Day Secondary School, Adewole for using ineligible players, which is against the rules and regulations of the competition.

By virtue of their disqualification, Government Technical College, Ilorin has also won the third place prize.

Over 260 Secondary Schools, both public and private participated in this year’s edition from the eight zones which include Ilorin A and B, Ilorin West, Offa, Omu-Aran, Share, Edu and Kaiama.

Asides the star prize of N1m, the sponsor, Lubcon Limited has made available other consolation prizes, and to mark the 10th year of the competition, five categories of prizes have been added. They are for the Most Disciplined Team, the Highest Goal Scorer, the Most Valuable Player, award for Best Goalkeeper, the Fair Play award.

The sponsorship of the competition is one of the corporate social responsibilities which Lubcon Limited has assigned to itself.
The Lubcon Principal Cup competition is being organized by Nigeria School Sports Federation, Kwara state.
