NYCN holds peace walk
As part of exercises to mark 1 year 2012 Democracy Day, the National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Kwara State Chapter engaged in a peace walk in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.
The walk which covered about three kilometers kicked off at Zulu Gambari Road through Post Office, Murtalah Mohammed Road, terminating at Ahmadu Bello Avenue.
The peace walk was with fun as over 500 youths including top government functionaries participated in the long walk exercise.
The chairman NYCN, Alhaji Mohammed Haruna Maigidansama, said the walk was designed not only to exercise the body but to celebrate democratic rule in Nigeria.
Alh. Mohammed Maigidansama noted that youths in Kwara State have cause to celebrate democracy considering the laudable programmes of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on youth empowerment through KWABES.
He urged the youths to participate and support the present administration in Kwara State even as he added that there is the need to guide democracy jealously.
Receiving the participants, the Kwara State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Barrister Anthony Towoju who stood in for Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed commended Kwara Youths under the umbrella of NYCN for the unique way they are re-focusing the minister of the teeming youths in the state today activities.
Barrister Towoju noted that youths in the state have since been exposed to citizenship and leadership training, entrepreneurship and capacity-building through workshops to enhance their prospects of self-government.
"Let me therefore reassure our youths that the government of Alh. Abdulfatah Ahmed is poised to take the interest of the youths to new pedestals", the commissioner added.
The Special Assistant on Youth Affairs, Hon. Saka Babatunde announced that more youths would soon be engaged in employment scheme"
Hon. Saka Babatunde enjoined the youths to eschew any act that may jeopardize their future.
