The Registrar of the University of Ilorin, Mr. Emmanuel Dada Obafemi, has said that the 40th Anniversary of the institution is a celebration of excellence and that of thanksgiving to Almighty God.

The Registrar, who stated this last Tuesday (October 13, 2015) while featuring on "Oro to n lo", a popular Yoruba current affairs programme on Unilorin 89.3 FM, expressed optimism that the institution will be ranked among the first five in the world in the next ten years as it is now a force to be reckoned with in the whole of Africa.

Mr. Obafemi said that in teaching, learning and research, the University of Ilorin is competing favourably with its peers across the globe. He disclosed that all machineries have been put in motion for a hitch-free 40th anniversary of the University as well as the 31st convocation ceremony. He appealed to Nigerians to support the University in prayers so as to have successful celebrations.

While commenting on the challenges facing the institution in terms of patronage, the Registrar noted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) has a guideline and a quota which all universities in Nigeria must adhere to. Mr. Obafemi however implored the NUC to increase the number of the students to be admitted into the university in order to give opportunity to more qualified applicants.

Meanwhile, the Registrar has commended the management for promoting over 500 staff members recently. He said the welfare of the staff and students of the University is being given priority by the university management. He also said that training and retraining of the academic and Non-academic staff of the University are also very important to the Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali -led administration.
