Date: 2015-09-11

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Thursday said that security agencies in the country had concluded arrangement to collaborate with community leaders in their efforts to tackle security challenges.

The NSCDC Zonal Commander in charge of zone 'H' comprising Niger, Kwara, Kebbi, Zamfara and Sokoto, Dr Ahmed Jega, made this known at a meeting with commandants in the area.

"The plan to collaborate with community leaders is to enhance the security endeavour in gathering intelligence report on rural-urban and inter-state movements in the country.

"All security agencies have been directed to ensure that the menace of insecurity is addressed.

"We synergise with other security agencies as you don't use only guns to fight insecurity but intelligence.

"It is in this regard we also liaise with the traditional rulers and other stakeholders to help us in achieving our mandates," he said.

He said that some states in the North-Central and North-eastern part of the country have resolved to provide logistic support in respect of high rate of cow rustling.

The corps zonal Commander said that report revealed that cow rustling, nomads and farmers clashes were some of the major security challenges affecting states in the North-Central and North-western part of the country. (NAN)
