Kwara United lose 0-1 to Wikki Tourists for 4th home loss

Date: 2015-08-17

Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin on Sunday at the State Stadium Complex lost for the fourth time at home in the 2014/2015 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

The hosts lost 0-1 to Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi through a Godwin Obaje 72nd minute strike from close range.

The visitors had dominated the entire first 45 minutes of the game, while Kwara United struggled all through to go for the break goalless.

The hosts, in their usual practice, came out better in the second half, but they could not hold on to get at least a draw from the match.

Speaking after the game, coach Abdul Maikaba, said the game was won because officiating had improved in the league this season.

"They came to Bauchi to pick a point and we thought we can also come here and win," he said.

Also reacting to the match, the coach of Kwara United FC, Tunde Sanni, blamed poor officiating for his team's loss.

He said the match officials got some of their calls wrong and pointed out that the scorer of the game's lone goal was in an offside position when the goal was scored.

"We came into this game with a mindset of winning, but I can't figure out what went wrong yet.

"But we will go back to the drawing board to re-assess ourselves so as to forge ahead," Sanni said.

Obaje, the match's goal scorer, while reacting to the game, said his team prepared very well for the match and the result had justified their efforts.

The scorer, who was voted Man of the Match, said he was honoured to have put up such a show.

"I'm delighted we won. However, it is not my making alone, but a collective effort," he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Kwara United will now travel to Oba in Anambra to take on Heartland FC of Owerri in a Match Day 24 encounter.(NAN)
