'WE WERE PAID N50,000 EACH FOR KIDNAPPING SARKIN FULANI'
The Kwara State Police Command has paraded four suspects, who were arrested in connection with the abduction of one Aliyu Harande, a Fulani leader in Omu- Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area.
The suspects paraded recently were Musa Kadir, 25; Isah Salihu, 20; Suleiman Abubakar and Abdullahi Babatunde, all of Rore village in the state.
Exhibits recovered from the suspects included Toyota Camry space car with registration number JJJ 795 AL, one locally manufactured single barrel gun, four live cartridges and two expanded cartridges.
The suspects, who spoke with our correspondent, disclosed that they were paid N50,000 each for successfully executing the kidnap.
However, one of the suspects, Abubakar described the act as "mistake", saying he had never involved himself in that crime.
"I have never done this kind of job before, I swear it was a mistake. It was my friend who introduced me to this.
I am a farmer. I was never told we were going to kidnap. He just called me to follow them somewhere, that was why I entered the vehicle with them," he said. On his part, Abdullahi Babatunde, narrated that his father was sick and he needed money, adding that he contacted his friend who took him out for the operation which he had no idea about.
"I was lured into the car not knowing that they were going to kidnap. I was in the car throughout the operation, I never knew they were going out to kidnap," he said.
Babatunde said he did not bother to find out the source of the money he was given, adding, "When I called him for assistance, my thinking is that probably he has something to offer for asking me to come but I never knew we were coming to do this kind of job."
In another case of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, three suspected members of a 10-man gang of armed robbers were paraded. They were Moshood Sanni, Oladimeji Sanusi and Emeka Eyinna.
Emeka, an indigene of Imo State, told Daily Trust correspondent that the country's economic condition pushed him into the crime. Also paraded were three suspected armed robbers, who were alleged to have dispossessed one woman of a sum of N650,000 she had just withdrawn from a commercial bank at Tanke junction Ilorin.
