Kwara PDP denies involvement in Saraki's wife ordeal
The Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party on Monday denied involvement in the current invitation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to Mrs. Toyin Saraki, the wife of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki.
Mrs. Saraki is being invited by the EFCC to appear in relation to several contracts executed by companies said to be linked to her and her husband when Saraki was the governor of Kwara State.
The state PDP, in a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Mr. Iyiola Oyedepo, and Publicity Secretary, Chief Rex Olawoye, said the state branch of the party did not write any petition to the EFCC against Saraki's wife.
It stated that the publication that the party was involved in Toyin's ordeal was politically motivated. The party said it emanated from those who had issues with the Senate President and his immediate family.
It said, "The attention of our party, the PDP, Kwara State chapter, has been drawn to a publication carried yesterday by online publications and newspapers (The Punch not inclusive) titled, "PDP claims responsibility for Toyin Saraki's EFCC ordeal," and credited to our spokesman, Chief Rex Olawoye.
"First, the Kwara State PDP dissociates itself from the said publications. The publication is the handiwork of dubious, desperate, faceless and spineless individuals or groups who are always in the mass and social media to malign characters and damage their superiors in order to gain cheap popularity.
"We want to put it on record that the Kwara State PDP has never at any time written any petition on anybody in the state, as far as the party is concerned. The Kwara State PDP has no hand in the imbroglio that is going on between the EFCC and Mrs. Toyin Saraki. We therefore emphatically state that all the statements credited to the Kwara State PDP are products/mechanisations of people who are disgruntled. They are spineless cowards."
