The Kwara State Police Command at the weekend apprehended six persons allegedly involved in the manufacturing of fake number plates.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Ajayi Okasanmi, told newsmen in Ilorin yesterday that the culprits were manufacturing Lagos plate numbers before they were discovered.

"Through our investigations, we discovered that stealing of vehicles with Lagos number plates was on the increase, and during our investigation we found out that they were fake numbers", he said.

The command impounded about 13 stolen vehicles in the state between April and June, it was gathered.

Sources told Daily Trust that 22 vehicles were stolen from the fourteen police divisions in Ilorin metropolis.

Five of the recovered cars have been released to their owners while nine of the stolen vehicles are yet to be recovered.
