Don Identifies Unfulfilled Pre-Marital Promises as Cause of Increase in Divorce Rate

An Ilorin-based Islamic Cleric, Mallam Ali Gambari has identified unfulfilled pre-marital promises as one of the leading causes of divorce in Nigeria.

While advising parents against forcing their children into marriage for selfish reasons, Gambari mentioned religion, family status, compatibility, affluence and beauty are the attributes to look out for when it comes to the choice future partner.

Gambari, a lecturer in the Department of Arabic, Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin spoke on "Marriage & Divorce In Islam" at a Ramadan lecture organised by NASFAT Tanke Branch, Ilorin.

Highlight of the event included presentation of valuable items to the less privilege and some committed members of the society by a philanthropist who does not want his name to be mentioned.

The items donated included refrigerators, fans, bags of rice, sewing machines, Semovita and other related Ramadan gifts.

Dignitaries at the Asalatu ground include the General Manager, Radio kwara, Alhaji Adedeji Adebowale, the Persoanl Assistant on Political matters to Kwara State Governor, Mr Olamilekan Yusuf, the Olori of babanla, Hajia Khadijat Yusuf among others.

According to the Chief Missioner, NASFAT Tanke Branch, Imam is-haq Jubril, the donor explained that the gesture was done in the spirit of Ramadan and to also reward committed members of the group.
