Date: 2012-05-22

Impeccable sources within the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) has hinted that former Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Bukola Sraki, would soon be charged to court for his involvement in a N9.7bn loan scam involving former InterContinental Bank. Also yesterday, his wife, Toyin, was grilled and later released on bail by men of the anti-fraud unit of the police in its Lagos office. Saraki has been under investigation since about two months ago in connection with a controversial loan waiver of N9.7bn granted some companies promoted by him, by Intercontinental Bank, while his wife, a director in one of the companies, was being investigated for her involvement in financial deals that has now gone awry.

National Mirror sighted, Toyin, who came into the Miverton Office of the police unit around noon yesterday together with her lawyer, Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN, urging a lady officer of the unit around 4.20 pm in the ante office of the Commissioner of Police in charge of the unit, to speed up her bail processes.

She finally left the unit's office around 4.45 pm in company of her lawyer and a friend, who was clad in an all-white attire.

Police sources said the amount granted Saraki and his companies represented about 82 percent of the N11.97bn indebtedness granted some companies in February, 2010 by the board of the now defunct Intercontinental Bank Plc under the management of Mahmood Lai Alabi, then the managing director and chief executive officer of the bank.

Police sources have confirmed that the companies that jointly incurred this indebtedness were Joy Petroleum Limited, Skyview Properties Ltd, Dice Trade, and Limkers Nigeria Ltd.
