Senate Presidency: Why I trekked for Saraki - Godwin
A 25 year old graduate of Economics, Kogi State University, Ayingba, David Godwin, who trekked from Abuja to Ilorin in support of Kwara Central Senator, Bukola Saraki, in his bid to become Senate President of the eighth National Assembly, said he embarked on the trip to appreciate Saraki's record of achievements.
He specifically told The Herald that having taken a close look at Saraki's political carrier, the good quality he possesses outweighed his contenders for the seat.
Speaking shortly after being received by tumultuous supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) upon his arrival in Ilorin, Godwin explained that he was marveled by what stands Saraki out among other aspirants for the Senate President.
He was received at Offa Garage around 11:05am by a team led by the Director of Organization of APC in the state, Mr Nasiru Zubair, after which he was supported in the trek to the GRA residence of the senate president hopeful.
"I have always been a fan of Senator Bukola Saraki and I have always followed him critically right from when he began his political carrier as far back as 2003 when he was Governor of Kwara State. I have seen his achievements and I don't think it is something we should talk more about because the achievements are there to speak for themselves.
"When he got to the National Assembly, I was inspired by the way he was not quiet in the house. He is always the person that would not shy to talk; he has masses at heart and he challenges things whenever they seem to be going wrong. So I felt if this man has done so much for us, it is only normal to show our own support however little or big.
"I think pain is valueless, meaning that you cannot attach any value to pain. So I think that is the greatest support I can give him. Challenges are normal in life, as human being you must face challenges in life. I already made up my mind to conquer it, that no matter what, I'm not turning back.
"Because if I should turn back, it is like I have failed myself and I have failed him (Saraki), because I already made it known to the whole world that this is what I want to do to show my support, and if I failed in supporting him, it is a very big shame on my part. I thank God I was able to overcome it", Godwin said.
The Director General of ABS senatorial office, Alhaji Musa Yeketi, assured the trekker that he would not regret his action.
He said the development in the nation's polity had indicated that Saraki was gaining sizeable support of the elected senators in his ambition.
