Kwara State Government launches another Community Health Insurance Scheme in Afon

Date: 2009-06-03

In furtherance of his commitment to primary Health Care service delivery, the Kwara State Governor, Dr. Bukola Saraki will tomorrow (Wednesday 3rd June, 2009), perform the official launch of the Afon Community Health Insurance Scheme in Asa Local Government Area of the State.

The Community Health Insurance Scheme (CHIS), which had earlier been launched in Shonga and Lafiagi in Edu Local Government Council, is aimed at enrolling and providing access to quality medical care for over 71,000 people in Afon district.

The scheme, which is to cover a 5-year period and donor subsidies, would be jointly funded by the Dutch Insurance Fund and the Kwara State Government.

Among dignitaries expected to grace the occasion are Mr. Kees Storm as well as representatives from the Dutch Health Insurance Fund and the Dutch Ministry of Sustainable Development.

Kwara is the first State to show commitment to co-financing the co-premium payments of the community with a view to achieving universal coverage in the State.
