Irewolede under siege as hoodlums, cultists terrorise residents

In what appears as the fall-out of the on-going aggressive security launch on suspected hoodlums in Ilorin metropolis, residents of Irewolede Community are now living in palatable fear following the influx of thugs and cultists in the area.

The community, according to one it residents, who did not want his name in print, had turned to the hide-out for some of the suspected thugs.

The source alleged that cultists had marked the area for meeting, which according to him, instilled fears in its residents.

The source claimed that there was an upsurge in the number of criminal activities going on in the area, adding that last Saturday, wife of the Special Assistant on Non-Governmental to the Kwara State governor, Alhaji Ali Olola, was attack in the area.

He source said the woman was shot in an attack, which occurred in her shop, alleging that the suspected hoodlums also carted away her belongings.

According to him, another victim, who is identified as a thrift collector, was also allegedly robbed at the upper area of Irewolede and disposed off of some cash.

The source, however, called on the police to beam they search light on the community and other dark spots in the state.

This, the source said, if done would, rid the state off of criminals.

When contacted, the Kwara Police Spokesperson, ASP Ajayi Okasanmi, denied knowledge of criminal hide-outs and cultists’ activities in the in the area.

Okansanmi, who later promised to get back to the medium, did not till this paper went to the press.
