There was tension in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, yesterday when some gun-wielding thugs went on rampage, shooting sporadically into the air. The incident occurred while they were awaiting results of the just concluded elections.

The fracas started around Taiwo Isale at about 10:10am and spread to other nearby areas like Niger road and Ikokoro area, where gunmen allegedly embarked on shooting spree.

Daily Trust gathered that the hoodlums were irked by the defeat of their candidate in Saturday's election. It was also gathered that one person was killed in the incident.

Motorists shunned the area for fear of attacks. However, armed policemen and soldiers had been deployed to the area. The police command said eight people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

Spokesman of the command, Mr. Okasanmi Ajayi, who confirmed the arrest, said guns and the vehicle used by the suspects were also impounded, adding that investigation was ongoing to determine the cause of the unrest.
