Court remands 6 suspected cultists

A Chief Magistrate's Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, yesterday remanded six suspects over cultism.

The suspects are: Tope, Kunle, Gbenga Alade, Philip Olawale, Segun and Kunle. It was gathered that on February 17, 2014, the suspects mobilized themselves with firearms and dangerous weapons at their hideout along Alagbede Offa Garage Ilorin and were about to commit criminal act when the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) arrested them.

It was further gathered that during a search at their hideout, two cut-to-size single barrel guns, eight drilling machines, weeds suspected to be Indian Hemp and a jack knife were discovered.

The prosecution said investigation conducted by SARS office revealed that the suspects belong to a secret cult.

The accused persons, who were arraigned over criminal conspiracy, membership of secret society and possession of firearms, offences that are contrary to Sections 97, 11 and 306 of the Penal Code, said they were not guilty.

Magistrate M. F. Adebola ordered their remand at the Federal Prison, Ilorin and adjourned the case to March 24.
