Kwara Utd finally joins 3SC, Wikki, Gabros in NPFL

Date: 2015-02-06

Kwara United FC of Ilorin has been finally promoted to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), joining Wikki Tourist of Bauchi, 3SC of Ibadan and Gabros FC of Nnewi.

The Ilorin based club promotion was ratified by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Appeals' Committee decision which upheld the earlier ruling of its Disciplinary Committee.

The decision was taken at the end of the Committee's meeting in Abuja on Wed. Feb. 4.

Kwara United and Ranchers Bees have been locked in the promotion battle since the last match of the NNL season, which was abandoned at 62 minutes in Kaduna when scores was 2-2.

The replay of the balance of 28 minutes ordered by the Appeal Committee in their first ruling in Abuja also ended abruptly, with players and officials of Ranchers Bees beating the match officials.

The Organizing and Disciplinary Committee thereafter, awarded the match to Kwara United with Ranchers players and officials who assaulted the officials suspended for one year, and also compelled to pay damages.

The Appeals' Committee in its latest ruling, said there was no appeal against the decision of the O&D, dated Jan. 15, as a perusal of the appeal of Ranchers Bees dated Jan. 17, did not in any way relate to the decision of the committee.

It further stated that the Appeal by Ranchers was predicated on the alleged use of players already substituted in the earlier match of Nov. 15, 2014 in Kaduna.

The Appeals' Committee latest ruling also had that match officials reports, documentary evidence, oral testimonies of both clubs and the secretariat of the NNL proved that both clubs erred in the use of players that were not eligible to be part of the remaining 28 minutes of the match between the clubs.

The Committee said an appeal against its decision shall lie to Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), and that a request for the ground of the decision must be sent in writing to the NFF within 10 days of the receipt of its notification.
