Why Jonathan can't resolve senators/govs rift - Saraki

Date: 2014-11-08

Former Kwara State governor, Senator Bukola Saraki, said yesterday that President Goodluck Jonathan could not resolve the same crisis now going between People's Democratic Party (PDP) governors and their senators in 2011 because of his selfish interest.

PDP senators are locked in a battle of wits with their governors over the control of delegates in their states, with the lawmakers alleging that the outcome of the ward congresses held last Saturday was skewed in favour of governors.

The chairman of the senate committee on environment and ecology and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) noted that the crisis was an internal affair of the PDP which should not disturb the workings of the National Assembly.

"But for the selfish interest of President Goodluck Jonathan's re-election, he cannot look at the governors and tell them pointblank what he wants. What I disagree with is that because the issue pertains to PDP it is being made very important," Saraki said.
