APC chieftain condemns withdrawal of Tambuwal's security

Date: 2014-11-04

Chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Ishola Balogun-Fulani, has described the withdrawal of the Speaker's security as the height of impunity.

Speaking with Daily Trust in Ilorin, Balogun-Fulani said the police by that action has turned itself into a parastatal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The police had withdrawn personnel attached to Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, shortly after he defected from PDP to the APC.

"The IG is being teleguided by the president; that means he is an appendage of the PDP. And we have a precedence; Edwin Ume Ezeoke who was elected under the Nigeria Peoples Party (NPP) was Speaker when NPN (National Party of Nigeria) was in majority. More so, when Mimiko defected to PDP, his security was not withdrawn so why Tambuwal?" he asked.

He added that based on the constitution, Tambuwal still remains Speaker of the House, despite his defection to APC.

Also speaking, a member of the House of Assembly, Moshood Bakare, said the action was an assault on democracy.

"It is not about Tambuwal as an individual. It is about the office of the speaker," he said.
