Ward Congress: Kwara PDP Chair, 3 Others Escape Lynching
Prompt intervention of anti-riot policemen yesterday saved the PDP chairman in Kwara State, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, from being lynched by some angry party members. Oyedepo was at the party's secretariat collating last Saturday's ward congress results but had to be escorted out by anti-riot police squad when the atmosphere became charged.
Some state executive members of the party accused of doctoring the election results from the field also narrowly escaped being lynched by aggrieved party members who insisted on election or open affirmation of delegates allegedly picked by consensus.
It was gathered that two senatorial vice chairmen and another top party official suspected to have compromised some results had to jump the fence at about 10pm when the aggrieved party members closed in on them.
Meanwhile, the PDP yesterday declared ward delegates' congress in five wards of Ilorin West Local Government Area, where election did not hold according to the party's guidelines, as inconclusive. The state PDP publicity secretary, Chief Rex Olawoye, disclosed this to newsmen in Ilorin.
The Leadership correspondent gathered that the affected wards were unable to submit any result by the submission time for the final results to the party's national monitoring officers led by Senator Iyiola Omisore.
