Date: 2014-10-17

The executive governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed Thursday re-echoed the readiness of his administration to handover faith and community based schools to their original owners if they expressed the desire to wholly run them without government's grants.

The governor, who met with owners of faith and community based schools in an interactive stakeholders meeting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital also expressed the preparedness of the state government to fully take over any school whose owners are ready to handover full ownership to the government.

The governor who assured stakeholders at the meeting on the resolve of the state government to provide qualitative education at all levels in the state, said a bill that will give legal backing to the new education policy in the state has been sent to the state House of Assembly, promising that government will exploit every available opportunity to guarantee access to qualitative education for every child in the state for the greater good of all.

According to a statement released by the chief press secretary to the governor, Abdulwahab Oba, the governor said: "If we want a brighter future for our children and the nation to compete favourably in the International Community, we must be concerned about the quality of education we deliver to the future leaders".

While speaking with stakeholders who were mainly drawn from faith based schools, the governor assured them that the state government does not have anything against any religion. "Every stakeholder in all sectors of the society must comply with the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria which guarantees freedom of worship for all and sundry. This is the way we can continue to live in peace", the governor said.
