Why Nigeria will not disintegrate - Emir

Date: 2014-10-10

Emir of Shonga in Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, Dr. Haliru Yahaya, has dismissed the prediction that Nigeria would disintegrate.

He said the prediction would not come to pass, "because Nigerians have resilience and absolute tenacity to remain together."

Speaking with Daily Trust in Shonga, the emir said: "It doesn't matter how people might see it; yes we have our ups and downs, we have challenges, but we have come together and that is very important."

He expressed optimism that the country's security challenges will be overcome and that the situation is part of the developmental process, adding that all Nigerians must contribute their quota to collectively address the challenges. The emir noted that the diversity and geographical spread of the country account for its strength, urging Nigerians to continue to accommodate one another.
