Shun sectional agenda, Belgore appeals to Kwara PDP members

Date: 2014-10-10

A PDP governorship aspirant in Kwara, Mr Dele Belgore, SAN, has appealed to members of the party to shun sectional agenda to win the 2015 elections in the state.

Belgore made the appeal on yesterday at Oke Ero Local Government Area during a tour of Kwara South Senatorial District ahead of the party's primary in November.

The senior advocate said that playing sectional politics would be inimical to the success of the party during the general elections in the state.

Belgore said his only agenda for PDP was to create a new Kwara where everybody would attain his full potentials.

"Whether you are from south, north or central, we are all victims of arbitrary rule of one single individual and his lackeys.

"I want you to know that Kwara people, whether from south, central or north, have a common enemy; we have a golden opportunity to chase him away now," Belgore said.

The aspirant appealed to prospective PDP delegates for the governorship primary to elect a candidate that would deliver the state to the party.

Belgore appealed to the delegates to also consider the aspirant that could effectively confront the APC in 2015 elections.

"What is the joy of getting the governorship ticket and fail at election; it is useless to secure party ticket and fail to win," Belgore added.

Belgore urged prospective party delegates to consider which of the PDP governorship aspirants had been consistent in the quest to effect change in the political status of Kwara.

"Primaries are ahead of us and I urge our party delegates to consider who among these aspirants has ever confronted these guys without retreating?

"Ask them who can win the majority votes among them? This is not about just getting the ticket; it is about winning majority votes," Belgore said.

Belgore expressed satisfaction with the number of aspirants jostling for the governorship ticket in PDP, saying that it was a healthy democratic challenge.

According to him, the fact that 180 aspirants are jostling for about 35 elective positions in the state shows that PDP is not in the hands of an individual.

Belgore said the time was ripe to end years of under development in Kwara and subjugation of the people.

Mr Ebun Afolayan, a member of the State Executive Committee of PDP from Oke Ero, thanked the candidate for his pro-unity stand and assured him of support at the appropriate time.

"We are very glad and excited at your coming to PDP. When we heard that you did not agree to stay in APC with them, we heaved a sigh of relief," he said.

Afolayan said Belgore's coming to PDP had strengthened it.

"We know your quality because at a time people couldn't challenge the status quo, you stood firm and fought a good fight that saw you going as far as the Supreme Court," Afolayan added.

Bade Ajayi, PDP ward Chairman for Oke Opin Etan, who spoke on behalf of the Ekiti executives, said Belgore's personality, charisma and pro-unity stance were commendable.

He said Ekiti would support the candidate it believed could win the election for PDP, irrespective of locality.
