2015: APC designs options to tackle Jonathan
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has designed a three-way option aimed at tackling President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential race.
Though details of the strategy were sketchy, news of its existence was broken at an emergency meeting of its bigwigs held inside the Sokoto State Government House on 27 September.
It was gathered that chieftains of the APC who converged on Sokoto for the turbaning ceremony of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Aminu Tambuwal, had seized the opportunity to hold an emergency meeting.
One of the top leaders of the party at the meeting told the gathering of the development of Options A, B and C to tackle Jonathan during the presidential race.
Sources at the meeting confirmed to Sunday Tribune that the influential member of the party disclosed that the strategy would ensure that Nigeria becomes "too big" for Jonathan from December. It was also gathered that former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, who was also in Sokoto, has offered to host a general strategy meeting which would provide further impetus to the designed Options.
It was confirmed to the leaders and the presidential aspirants of the party, including General Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Rabiu Kwakwanso and Abubakar, among others, that the three-way strategy was designed by a specialised think-tank.
Fresh challenges over convention
A fresh confusion, however, emerged in respect of the modified delegates election adopted for the party's national convention, as one of the presidential hopefuls said he was not comfortable with comments credited to the national legal adviser of the party, Mr Musiz Banire, recently to the effect that the system agreed upon at the recent National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the APC was not in line with the party's constitution.
A source quoted the national chairman of the party, Chief John Oyegun, as promising to look into the situation and contact all organs of the party for quick resolution.
