Eid-L-Kabir - Ram Sellers Flood Ilorin, Complain of Low Patronage

As Muslims prepare for the Eid-l-Kabir celebration, rams sellers have taken over most parts of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital even as they complain of low patronage.

Daily Trust reports that the sacrificial animals for Sallah were being sold in almost all the nooks and crannies of Ilorin metropolis instead of the usual ram markets at Sango, Ipata or Kulende.

The ram sellers have inundated different parts of the metropolis like Adewole, Mandate market, Oja Tuntun, Agbo Oba, GSS roundabout, Ipata Oloje, Adeta, among others.

Some of the sellers who spoke to our correspondent said they have decided to bring the animals to the doorsteps of the buyers, saying some customers might find it cumbersome going to the regular markets considering the transportation logistics.

However, some of the sellers have continued to complain of low patronage, saying customers have not been turning up three weeks after they brought the rams.

A seller at GSS Roundabout, Ismaila Kannike said, "I have brought my animals for the past three weeks, yet we have not sold many. Many of the customers who come to price them said they cannot afford the rams. Money is scarce everywhere now, maybe government could buy the rams and sell to people at subsidized rate".

He attributed the rising price of rams to insurgency in some parts of the north, saying they couldn't go the distant parts of the north where rams are cheaper.
