Kwara Police Designates Thuggery As Act Of Terrorism

Date: 2014-09-16

The Kwara state Police Command has designated political thuggery as an act of terrorism.

The new commissioner of Police in the state, Salihu Garba disclosed this in Ilorin yesterday during his maiden press conference.

He warned against defacing or outright destruction of political bill boards, saying that the command has zero tolerance for act of political thuggery in whatever guise.

"Destroying bill boards will not stop the person who will win the election from winning, but that act constitutes a breach of public peace.

"Those that erected the bill boards and posters might have spent some money in doing that, so if anyone destroy them, that may lead to chaos," he stated.

On the security situation of the country, Garba advised Kwarans to be very vigilant and provide the police with necessary information at all times.

He pledged to do all within his power to ensure that the state remains peaceful.

The Police boss who praised journalists for their support and cooperation with the Command enjoined them to keep the Police abreast of information needed to ensure security of lives and property in the state.

He promised to operate an open door policy to allow anyone who have useful information concerning the security of the state to ventilate such idea.
