Group raises concern over sabotage in Kwara PDP

Date: 2014-11-29

A group under the aegis of the Articulate Kwara Youth League, AKYL, yesterday advised President Goodluck Jonathan and the national Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to urgently address the lingering problem in the party.

It added that it will not hesitate to stage a protest vote against the PDP in the 2015 election if business mogul, Hajiya Muina Shagaya and the Minister for National Planning continues to dictate the tune of the party in the state.

This is contained in an open letter addressed to President Goodluck Jonathan and the national leadership of the PDP signed by Mallam Abdulraheem Salman Gambari (Kwara Central), Comrade Tahiru Ndakotsu (Kwara North) and Mr. Afolabi Titiloye (Kwara South) respectively a copy made available to Nigerian Pilot in Ilorin.

According to the group, “We the entire members of the above named association which has the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as its umbrella body, wishes to express our dismay over the ugly state of affairs in our great party with particular reference to the monopolisation of the party’s activities by some lobby groups whose major interest is to sabotage the efforts of teeming party faithful.

“The situation as we currently have it in Kwara PDP is nothing but an attempt to jeopardise and out rightly ensure that the party fails in the forthcoming general elections and thereafter denying the good people of Kwara State the much awaited and desired freedom and subjecting them to irreparable hardship at the hands of the All Progressive Congress, APC led government.”

They further maintained that, “It is on this premise that we hope to express our dissatisfaction to President Goodluck Jonathan and the national secretariat our great party under the chairmanship of Dr. Adamu Mu’azu to as a matter of urgency apply a holistic view to the happenings within the Kwara PDP before it gets worse.

“Handling the affairs of Kwara PDP by non-politicians such as Hajia Muina Shagaya and the Minister of National Planning, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman who have no atom of political clout in their ward (Ajikobi Ward) is an half way to the party’s failure in the 2015 general elections as they are planning to impose candidates in the forthcoming party’s primaries at the expense of popular aspirants who can really weather the storm by challenging the existing APC structure and eventually retrieve the PDP stolen mandates.

“We also wish to use this medium to intimate Mr. President of the secret deal between Hajia Muina Shagaya and the Kwara state government as she is the sole supplier of fertilisers among other goodies. Thereby working assiduously to further ensure that PDP fails in its attempt to feed incredible grassroots politicians and acceptable winning teams that can humiliate and defeat its benefactor in the APC folks.”

The letter reads in part, “Also Working with Mrs. Shagaya is one Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq who told his supporters that Mr. President cannot win and thereafter, it will after other elections but he was fingered pretending to be against the PDP in favour of APC.

This is however evident in Shagaya’s attempt to impose Barrister Dele Belgore (SAN) as the governorship candidate and other seasonal political junks turned- aspirants who are alien the people of the state to fly the kite of the party by dropping the name of the President, Vice President and First Lady to intimidate and frustrate our sincere efforts. This will neither facilitate Mr. President’s victory in Kwara nor deliver the people of the state from the current economic /political slavery.

“We however wish to advise President Goodluck Jonathan and Dr. Adamu Mu’azu to find a workable solution to the lingering hindrances within our party by directing Hajiya Muina Shagaya to hands-off from the affair of the party and ensure that all aspirants irrespective of their political connections are given enabling and level playing ground to demonstrate their ability of ensure and facilitate PDP’s victory in the general election.

“We shall not hesitate to canvass for protest vote against Mr. President and deliver our votes en bloc to any other party as we can no longer condone this impunity and act of politics of isolation by some lobby groups whose stake in the current project is full of ambiguities.”
