Press Release: Aregbesola's Victory: Triumph Of Democracy Over Federal Might - Kwara APC.

Date: 2014-08-11

The All Progressives Congress, Kwara State chapter, has felicitated with Ogbeni Rauf Adesoji Aregbesola and the people of State of Osun on the hard-won victory of the governor at the gubernatorial election in the state.

In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sulyman Buhari, the APC described Governor Aregbesola's victory as "hard-won victory and the triumph of democracy over federal might".

"We congratulate the courageous and progressives people of the State of Osun for successfully protecting their territory against external aggression and federal might by voting overwhelmingly for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Governor Rauf Aregbesola at the highly-militarized poll.

"The militarization of election in Nigeria remains unacceptable to our party, elections should be conducted by INEC officials and seen to have been conducted by INEC officials and not by the military. The truth about the election is that, at a particular point in the electoral process, it had all the semblances of a war.

"The deployment of over 70,000 armed and masked personnel across the state of Osun, the intimidation and arrest of over 250 APC leaders and members when no single PDP member was either intimidated or harassed, and other infringement on the constitutionally-guaranteed human rights of Osun people before and during the election are condemnable.

"The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) did a good job but an election that was militarized, and characterised by harassment and arrest of only APC members in an election contested by 20 political parties can not be said to be free or fair. Prof. Attahiru Jega and INEC can not continue to support the militarization of elections in Nigeria. Where is the sanity of our electoral process?

"The fate that befell the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State of Osun is a signal to what awaits the PDP in all states of Nigeria, including Kwara State in the 2015 general elections. It is just a matter of time for all Nigerians to know how the PDP rigged the Ekiti gubernatorial elections. Nigerians are not fools. The PDP will run on its records. If the PDP has kept Nigerians in perpetual darkness for 15 years, it doesn't deserve another term. Nigerians are tired of darkness and the PDP. This record and many others will be the reasons why Nigerians and Kwarans will massively vote out the good-for-nothing PDP at all levels in the 2015 general elections.

"Now that the election has temporarily detached the State of Osun according to political interests and sentiments, We urge Governor Rauf Aregbesola to immediately unite the State of Osun as a people that they truly are. Once Again, Congratulations.", the statement read.
