Ebola: Kwara Puts Rapid Response Team On Red Alert
As part of efforts to prevent the spread of the deadly Ebola disease, the Kwara State government has put the newly constituted rapid response team on red alert.
The chairman of the state Primary Healthcare Board, Hajia Ashiata Saka made this disclosure during an interaction with newsmen in Ilorin.
She disclosed that the state government has embarked on border post sensitisation of officials so that the team can identify suspected cases and prevent victims of the virus from coming into the state.
"The state government has put the rapid response team on red alert and intensified sensitization programme at border posts in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service," she explained.
Other efforts, according to her, include periodic radio announcement to create awareness among the populace and the training of health workers on recognition and management of the disease.
The chairman added that enlightenment programmes would be organized for traditional rulers and community leaders towards effective dissemination of the message on the killer-disease to the public.
Ebola, a deadly disease that kills 90 percent of its victims had already claimed over 700 lives in West African countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia, thus prompting fears among people of the continent on possible outbreak in other parts of Africa, Nigeria inclusive.
