Kwara Speaker Denies N33 Million Fraud
Speaker Kwara State House of Assembly, Abdulrasaq Atunwa, has denied allegations of financial misdeeds leveled against him by the house Chief Whip, Illiyasu Ibrahim, describing the allegations as wicked, malicious and entire falsehood.
Ethics and privileges committee of the house, according to him, have been mandated to investigate the allegations and make recommendations to the house for deliberation and final decision.
The chief whip had written to the Ethics Committee in a five-page petition to probe the speaker over allegations of multimillion naira fraud, mismanagement and official highhandedness.
Addressing newsmen in Ilorin yesterday over the allegations, Atunwa said there was never a time since assumption of office that he engaged on frivolous financial spending.
"I was a former commissioner for works, former commissioner for lands, former commissioner for information and former commissioner for finance handling the state finances; I was not accused of stealing a kobo during the period", he said.
