Dredging Brings Relief to Ilorin

Date: 2012-01-26

The Kwara State Government has embarked on the dredging of canals in Ilorin as parts of measures to combat flooding in the state.

The Commissioner for Works and Transport, Dr. Amuda Kannike, in an

interview with our correspondent on Saturday, said the dredging was to avoid a recurrence of last year’s experience where some homes were flooded and socio-economic activities were disrupted in some of the towns.

He stated that the government would be investing about N200m in the dredging of the canal near Maraba Junction and the construction of a road at Mubo Street, which are expected to be completed before the rainy season.

The commissioner said the government had cleared heaps of refuse that littered the metropolis during the strike and protests against the petrol subsidy removal.

He said the government placed priority on environmental sanitation to improve on the wellbeing of the citizens
