Kwara NLC makes case for 900 sacked teachers

Kwara NLC requests that the Kwara State government re-examine the sack of 900 primary school teachers

The Kwara State chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday in Ilorin appealed to the state government to revisit the alleged breach of employment process that led to the sack of no fewer than 900 primary school teachers.

The State Universal Basic Education Board had engaged the services of the affected teachers between October 2011 and February 2012.

Their appointment was however, terminated as the government said their appointments were not properly captured in the data base of the Kwara Bridge Empowerment Scheme (KWABES).

But Farouk Akanbi, the NLC chairman in the state, said that there is an urgent need to revisit the issue in order to reinforce the government's employment drive in the state.

"We appeal to the Kwara Government to set in motion the process for the regularisation of the appointment of the 900 teachers who lost their jobs for allegedly breaching employment process.

"The state Universal Basic Education Board could be mandated to organise the proper screening of their certificates and evidence of KWABES registration as preliminary step towards reabsorbing them.

"We believe doing that will impact positively on the employment drive of the administration," he added.
