Kwara to eject teachers without requisite qualifications from schools
Kwara State government has said that it has resolved to eject primary and post- primary school teachers, who have no qualification in education discipline from their teaching job. This decision was taken just as the government has also concluded arrangements with the Philippine government on the siting of a Philippino university in the state.
Speaking with journalists on the outcome of the state executive council meeting in Ilorin, on Thursday, the state Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Saka Onimago, said the teachers would be eased out into the mainstream of the state civil service.
He, however, said that the redeployment would be on gradual basis so that it would not affect smoothness of educational activities in schools, adding that it would allow the affected teachers to be prepared for the development.
Onimago said the decision of the government to disengage the teachers from the teaching job was informed by the need to improve on effectiveness of education received in schools.
The commissioner, who said that there are 21, 000 teachers with qualification in National Certificate in Education (NCE) in the state, added that only teachers with this qualification would be allowed to teach in primary and juniour secondary schools.
He said that those teachers among the NCE holders without specialisation in primary education would be encouraged to go for a sandwich course for the specialisation to enable them fit in at the level they teach.
The commissioner disclosed that the Philippino university, called AMA University, would have its temporary site at the old Ilorin Teachers College, Lagos Road , Ilorin town, which has a seven hectares of land.
