Court Orders Remand of Suspected Cultist
An Ilorin Magistrates' Court on Monday remanded a suspected cultist, Ibrahim Ganiyu, 25 of Oke-Ipo area of Ilorin for allegedly writing a threat letter to a school principal.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Bilikisu Adu, said that the accused was alleged to have on May 14, conspired with others, now at large, to commit the crime.
According to the prosecution, the accused and others pasted a threat letter with insignia of Alora Secret Cult Confraternity on the office door of the principal of Ilofa Grammar School, Ilofa, Kwara.
She alleged that the accused also pasted same letter on the entrance door of the school laboratory.
The prosecutor said that investigation revealed that the accused is a member of the Alora Secret Cult Confraternity.
She said that he and others, now at large, were the persons that placed the said letter.
The prosecutor said that the accused had been arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, criminal intimidation and being member of a secret cult.
She said the offences contravened sections 97, 398 of Penal Code and 11(1) of Secret Society in Educational Institution (Prohibition), 2004.
She objected to the accused's bail application, and urged the court to remand him in prison custody pending the outcome of ongoing investigation.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Nathaniel Ajide acceded to the submission of the prosecutor and ordered the accused be remanded in the Federal Prison, Oke-Kura, Ilorin.
He then adjourned the case until June 26. (NAN)
