Ilorin Clash: Death Toll Rises To 5

The death toll in Monday's violent clash that broke out between some hoodlums in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital has rose to five.

The Kwara State Police command has also arrested 12 persons in connection with the incident.

Three casualties were recorded between Friday and Monday morning with an additional casualty recorded on Monday afternoon.

While an un-identified motorcyclist rider was allegedly shot dead by security operatives another person simply identified as Dauda reportedly died in cross fire by the rampaging hoodlums.

The spokesman of the state Police Command ,Mr Ajayi Okasanmi confirmed the arrest of 12 persons in connection with the crisis to journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday.

He said investigation was still on to unravel the causes of the fracas. Ant- riot policemen and military personnel including soldiers and Air force personnel were called in to quench the fracas which paralised commercial activities in most part of the metropolis.

Two Air force personnel deployed to the trouble spots were also said to have been attacked during the fracas.

Meanwhile normalcy was yet to return to the affected areas as at the time of filing this report even as military personnel and anti- riot policemen keep watch over the troubled spot.

Heavy gunshot continue to rock the affected areas around 11:55 am yesterday, streets remained deserted as many residents remained indoor and shops and businesses could not operate.
